Every year the Redruth Ladies Darts League in conjunction with the Lions Club raise money for charity and this year the recipient was the Mermaid Appeal. On the 9th June 2011 the Camborne Redruth & District Lions Club held a presentation evening and pasty supper at the Railway Social Club Redruth for them to say thank you to the 7 teams, who during April month, took part in a sponsored points scoring darts marathon. The 7 teams participating were Trevenson Social Club, British Rail Staff ‘B’, Waterfront Inn, Red Lion, Oxford Inn, Miner’s Arms and the Collin’s Arms. Gloria Uren (British Rail Staff ‘B’) won the highest 3 dart score with 148 points and Lyn Pascoe (Trevenson Social Club) won the Clarissa Coules Salver for the largest individual point’s score of 4416 Trevenson Social Club achieved a magnificent double by winning both the highest score of 23380 points and by obtaining the greatest amount of sponsorship with a fabulous total of £248.00. Lion President Derek Canham presented them with a Lions’ Perpetual Shield, new dart boards, medals and all teams taking part in the Marathon were presented with a Lions’ Certificate of Achievement. Lion President Derek Canham thanked all the ladies for their magnificent effort and in particular, the league’s Chairperson, Jeanette Perry, for all her help in organising the, once again, successful marathon. A cheque for £1,200, proceeds from the marathon, was presented to Jo Brand, head breast scanner of the Mermaid Centre at Treliske Hospital. The Camborne Redruth and District Lions would express their sincere thanks to all the Ladies who took part in the competition .
